how to identify fake ngo

When we’re planning to support NGO, first doubt is how to how to identify fake ngo.

Watch video below…

NGO on social media

Of course, social media are full of NGO profiles asking for help, support or money to develop their projects but most of them are FAKE.

Social media is the best way to reach donors and grow in visibility, but so many people uses also to steal money.

It’s so easy to download some photos and videos from different profiles and create a fake account.

Uganda Orphanage Experience

I’m working with an orphanage in Uganda helping them with fundraising platforms on Gofundme and Paypal charity.

After my last travel there, we were talking about fake profiles and how to know if a profile is fake or legit.

how to identify fake ngo

You can watch video on YouTube, but we can resume on some steps.

  1. Ask for certificate, all NGO or orphanages must have a certificate with government stamp, that stamp is the trick because fake NGOs will show you a document without any government stamp.
  2. Ask for Children Profile, because all kids must be registered in orphanage with personal information and also who is their guardian or parents.
  3. Claim map location to see if in this place there are any building, use also Google Street View to check it.
  4. Make a Videocall with the orphanage, not only with a man in white background. Ask for a tour to see rooms, kitchen and greet the kids. Maybe this is the best way to know if an orphanage is legit or fake.
  5. Use your vacation to travel there and live in person how they’re working and get an amazing experience.

Create a Gofundme campaign

If they want you to create a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe platform or Paypal charity, remember you will be involved financially with them, and also to pay taxes in your country.

On this case, you must control all the expenses in NGO. So, request for invoices and accounting to NGO crew. Maybe you need to prove to your authorities money destination.

Evaluate also to create an NGO or Foundation to prevent taxes in your country, or offer tax deduction to your donors.

Help Others

Don’t be scared, it’s so easy to help others safely and there is not enough money to pay only one smile of these kids.
